Richart Maire born in 1958

Fantaisie bien ordonnee, 2004
Richart Maire was born in Digion, France, in 1958. He lives and works in the beautiful village of Charbonnierre near Macon in the Rhone Valley.
The main theme of Maire's work is "duality of the individual", the left side of the brain deals with "creativity and spontaneity ", whilst the right side is concerned with 'logic' and 'order'. To realise this in his work he paints the left side of the canvass with his left hand and the right with his right hand. In this way he is uniting both sides of his persona and the string which appears in much of his work represents this bringing together of the two sides.
His paintings have a very simplistic appearance, but each piece is the result of a gradual build up of layers of paint and different textures. Maire is an artist concerned with balance and the chi and this is reflected in the colour and structure of his work. He paints with both his right and left hand to convey this balance both figuratively and theoretically.
