Peter Blake
Sir Peter Blake
Artist Biography
Sir Peter Blake’s early work was dominated by two main subjects, naturalistic scenes with autobiographical elements and fantastic scenes from the circus. As his style developed Blake combined his love of popular culture, comics, advertising designs and fine art to produce distinctive works.
In the late 1950’s, Blake became one of the best known Pop Artists and is one of the key originators of this artistic movement. Blake is perhaps best known today for his designs for album sleeves, in particular for the Beatles’ album “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, 1967. Blake’s iconic images continue to be highly sought after today and the artist is still very involved in the contemporary art scene where he is a great supporter and champion of young and emerging artists
