Victor Pasmore
Victor Pasmore
Artist Biography
After building a solid reputation as a figurative painter in the 1930s and co-founding the famous 'Euston Road Group', in 1947 Victor Pasmore shocked the art establishment by making the shock announcement in 1947, that he had converted to "total abstraction". Moving away from making images that directly represented the visual appearance of objects, he sought instead to create a parallel reality made up of forms, lines and colour.
In 1966, Pasmore moved to Malta and began to focus on print-making which became a major part of his oeuvre; his prints often reflect the colour and vibrancy of the Mediterranean. His international reputation has grown consistently from the 1960's and his work is held in major institutions worldwide.
